Re: Doping scandal in the PL..
Just finished reading the Tyler Hamilton book. 99.99% of cyclists were on it back in 2000.

Interesting things he had to say about EPO and testosterone - EPO didn't give much benefit in the one day races, it was in the 2 or 3 week Tours equivalent to 18 marathons in 21 days in the case of the Tour de France where it made a crucial difference.

Testosterone on the other hand gives huge benefits in quick recovery. In football it would be very useful to teams without big squads to rotate and with Euro commitments.

In case we're all feeling comfortable Brum were named. Just waiting for the papers to say it was on G&S's watch.

Totally different era, zico son.

Surely that's pretty obvious? Wasn't a rare thing for unfancied teams to do well - Watford and Southampton even finished 2nd or 3rd one season. Wasn't so unusual then. There was not so much of a huge gap in class as there has been for 20-odd years between teams in the Premiership.

What about our boys of 86 then? Division Two side in 1980, bloody awful season in 1984/85, nearly Champions in 85/86 and back to bloody awful again in 86/87!!!!

The only way to put the brakes on doping in sport it to have more excessive penalties because the risk of life bans is obviously not enough of a deterrent.

To sanction, legally and financially may be more of a deterrent. Sport needs to draw up doping contracts that ALL professional athletes/sports people would have to sign. The contract would have to be legally worded in a way that by signing it the athlete is saying they will not use any performance enhancing drugs. The contract would need to enclose an exhaustive list.

Basically by signing that contract it would mean that if found guilty of taking banned performance enhancing drugs the athlete could be sued financially for breach of contract thus having to return any wages/prize money/sponsorship money or something along those lines.

If an athlete is at risk of total and utter bankruptcy then he/she may think a little more on whether to partake in illegal activities.

The way it is now you lose the odd medal, get a little ban and a slap on the wrist.

Like I said yesterday I know Simon Beck (the lino yesterday)... he is without doubt one of the worst officials we have had at amateur level... and absolute car crash... so bad that when we reached a final both teams refused to play the game until he was removed as the ref... that;s how bad he is .... and now he's running the line and STILL fucking up week in week out...cheats?? Nah... shit?? 100% yes...

no, with me the vast majority of jockeys are piss poor, not at it. I have a different view about certain officials refereeing games

Re: Doping scandal in the PL..
Christ, bit of a difference between an ex-non-league player suddenly banging in shit loads of goals for club and country at the highest level to a player 4 years younger who has played very well - but not to like fucking World-beater levels like Vardy.

So this quack was giving sportspeople HGH (Human Growth Hormone) .... you know the same stuff that Lionel Messi was pumped up with?? Surely nothing to see here then??

Re: Doping scandal in the PL..
this story is a deflection from the real problem in the PL, the piss poor standard of refereeing or the deliberate mistakes that are being made every week. that's what the gutter press should be focussing on. not what a no mark quack was prescribing for a handful of players

"Wouldn't be surprised if Jamie Vardy's on something. Non-league player not too long ago and then a 20-something-goal-a-season top-flight striker, suddenly, from the age of 28 onwards... Something smells fishy there."

Better check Antonio, too...

And if someone can find some of Alan Devonshire's hair from 30 years ago...

Sven Roeder 12:48 Sun Apr 3
Re: Doping scandal in the PL..
The obvious suggestion is Leicester and someone like Vardy who appears to have run non stop since August.
Perhaps more likely is a team at the top that has also had endless Europa league games and appears to have had no muscle injuries or tiredness whatsoever.
Spurs winning the league on the last day and then having the trophy taken away and being relegated for doping is probably too much to hope for.

Re: Doping scandal in the PL..
The whole Leicester City team should be tested. League One just a few years ago and relegation battlers last year to possible champions this season... Just doesn't make sense to me.

Wouldn't be surprised if Jamie Vardy's on something. Non-league player not too long ago and then a 20-something-goal-a-season top-flight striker, suddenly, from the age of 28 onwards... Something smells fishy there.
